#451 - Help Me to Not be so Smart
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor

Dear Father, I am the smartest person I know. I have a vast knowledge of archeology, astrology, biology, climatology, criminology, cardiology, ecology, geology, gynecology, neurology, political ideology, psychology, sociology, technology, theology, and philosophy. I'm the expert in every conversation. I continuously correct people on the minutia. I drive people away. I do this because I am deeply insecure. I don't like myself. I must receive respect from others so that I can respect myself. I must always be the smartest person in the room. I need to win every argument with a friend. I need to dominate the conversation at dinner parties. I must be the unrelenting know-it-all at a town hall meeting. I feel discouraged. The victory is not sweet. I've alienated a lengthy list of people throughout my life. Help me to surrender my life to You. Father, the wisest man or woman does not try to prove their knowledge. They just know that they know what they know and they have quiet confidence in that knowledge. The wisest person understands that acts of compassion, generosity, kindness, mercy, and grace impress people far more than knowledge. Father, help me to be willing to be perceived as stupid in other people's eyes while I influence them by my loving character. Amen
