#452 - Help Me Set Boundaries
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor
Dear Father, I have no boundaries. I let people walk all over me. I don't know how to say no when it is appropriate to do so. Even though a person may be causing me great pain, I continue to allow them to do as they please. Isn't that the way I'm supposed to be? Don't You teach us to turn our cheek, give up our coat, and walk the second mile for others? Aren't I supposed to be a doormat? Isn't that Christ-like? Father, it is human nature for people to rebel against you. It is not true that we are to comply with everything others ask us to do or believe. We are to have boundaries. What if we are asked to break Your law? We are to say no. On the other hand, You speak to us through other people. Another person may see sinful pride in our words and actions and we need them to tell us.Father, I need You to draw the boundary lines in my life. Help me know when someone is speaking for You and when they are not. This is called inquiring of the Lord and it is what I need to do every hour of every day. Father, if I don't inquire of You about daily boundaries, I am revealing my rebellious heart. Forgive me of my rebellion. Help me to surrender my life to you. Father, if what is asked of me will increase my love for God and my love for other people, it is something from you. If what is asked of me feeds my own rebellion or the rebellion of the one who asks, it is not from you. Father, I won't be able to clearly figure this out. Therefore, I need You to set boundaries for me. Every hour of every day. Amen.
