#544 - I am Lonely
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor
Dear Father, I am so lonely. I have friends but they are only acquaintances. I spend most of my time alone, watching television, surfing the Internet, playing online games with strangers, or perhaps reading a book. I'm single and everyone else I know is married or in a relationship. Neighbors and co-workers are friendly to me. They'll send me greeting cards. I have a few friends, so to speak, on Facebook. However, I don't feel like anyone cares. Is anyone thinking about me tonight? Is anyone wondering how I'm doing? How long would it take for people to notice I'm missing if I disappeared? I long for a close friend. I long for someone who exchanges "good morning" and "good night" with me every day. I long for someone to talk with, to share with them what's going on in my life and for me to care about what's going on in their life. I want someone to share their life with me. I want to feel what's it like when someone wants me to be involved in their life. Father, You are all I need. You are the fullness of the emotional intimacy I long for. I know that if I draw near to you, You will draw near to me. I know that if I confess my rebellion and surrender my life to you, You will shower me with the peace that cannot be understood by those who don't know You. I can talk with You and hear Your voice through prayer and study of Your Word. I can feel Your presence in my life through involvement in a church family who truly understands the heartache of people with broken lives. I know that a terrific way to soothe the pain of loneliness is to serve others in need. Father, show me where I can volunteer and where I can serve. However, tonight, I long for a human friend who is closer to me than my own family. Please bring him or her to me soon. Amen.
