#591 - Divorce Settlement
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor
Dear Father, my attorneys and I are preparing a divorce settlement with my spouse and their legal team. Sigh. We were so "in love" at one time. Flirtation. Smiles. Twinkles in the eyes. "Honey". "Sweetheart". Now my spouse is that "jerk" I can't wait to get away from. Father, I've learned a big lesson throughout this nightmare. If God is not the number one love of both partners in a marriage, that marriage will be unstable. It is when we love God more than anyone or anything else that we obey Him. When we are obedient to Him we receive the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Love. Joy. Peace. Gentleness. Goodness. Kindness. Faith. Perseverance. Patience. When we have those character traits, we are going to have a healthy relationship. When we love You, we love what You love - other people. Our spouses. We love unconditionally. We love with devotion and faithfulness. We are getting divorced because both of us did not love You more than we loved each other. Father, it's strange - my spouse and I couldn't negotiate or compromise in our marriage. Now the courts are forcing us to. Father, please forgive us for our rebellion. Please forgive me. Help me to surrender my life to You. About the divorce settlement, I pray for the terms that are fair, just, and right. May our financial assets and our physical property be distributed fairly. May the children have the best custody, visitation, and child support plan for them. If alimony is fitting, I pray that it will be fair. Father, I ask that the settling of our divorce will be amicable. I thank You that at one time I had deep feelings for my spouse. I now pray that I will have Christ-like unconditional love for him or her. Bless them. Protect them. Provide for them. Give them the love I can no longer give them. Amen.
