#602 - Should We Adopt or Have Foster Children?
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor

Dear Father, there are so many hurting children in this world. They have been neglected and abandoned by their parents. Their parents are absent, perhaps because of death or incarceration. I know how precious children are to You. They are the parents of future generations. If they are scarred beyond repair in their childhood, they will be ill-equipped to love and guide their children. The disaster of dysfunctional families passes from generation to generation. Our society pays a catastrophic price for this. It is a sacred opportunity to rescue a child physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Father, if it is Your will for us, lead my spouse and I to adopt a child. Lead us to foster a child in crisis. Please prepare our hearts: - The child we bring in to our home must be loved. We must be persevering and resilient, never withdrawing our love because of difficulties we encounter with the child. - We must be prepared to respect the child and to treat them equally with our biological children. - We must understand they may have developmental delays and that they may be traumatized. We must have compassion, gentleness, and grace. We must have the insights about their struggles and the teaching skills to direct them to a healthier emotional place. - We must model what a godly family and godly parents look like. - We must set boundaries for them and give them loving consequences that make them feel secure. - We must fight for their rights and connect them with advocates in the community. - We must inspire their creativity and their hope for the future. Father, there is no way that we can do this on our own. We must surrender our lives to You and allow the Holy Spirit to transform our hearts and minds. We surrender this very day. Begin to change us. When we are ready, bring a precious foster child into our home. Amen.
