#632 - Using Email for Prayer
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor
Dear Father, I thank You for the invention of email. Back in the day, it took days, perhaps weeks and months, for a message to travel from one person to the next. We needed a messenger to travel on foot hundreds of miles. Now, I can send a message to someone and it will arrive in one second. Father, email allows me to have regular relationships with people who live and work thousands of miles away from me. The telephone is certainly nice. It allows us to hear a person's voice, tone, and inflections. With inventions like FaceTime we can watch as a person talks with us. Email, however, is closer to the old-fashioned letters. If we don't delete the email, the person's words remain forever, something we can refer to for a task or for reminiscing. We can send attachments - photos and documents. The person can respond to it when they have a free moment, taking the time to word their response carefully. It's a wonderful tool. However, like anything good, it can also be used for bad. We can send hurtful words that we may regret but remain on the recipient's computer. Someone may forward our email to other individuals who we didn't intend to read our words. We can send an email to the wrong person. Yikes. We can send emails to busy people who don't have the time to read. Of course, we can always send spam, annoying all kinds of people. Father, help me to use email for good. May each email be blessed with Your oversight, crafted carefully to bless the recipient. Help me to use my email to send people personalized prayers. It's one thing to say I will pray for you. It's quite something else to take the time to carefully craft a prayer in an email that touches the recipients heart. Father, inspire me and lead me to use email as an amazing prayer support tool for the people in my life. Amen.
