#638 - The Case for Transparency
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor
Dear Father, integrity is an essential ingredient in healthy human relationships. Integrity is built by the following: - I do what I say I will do. - I have values that I hold dear. - I do what corresponds to those values. - I am consistent in what I do no matter the circumstance. When we have that kind of integrity, people trust us. We become dependable. People can lower their defenses with us because they know what we will and won't do. To build that integrity, I need to be transparent. I need to tell people what I intend to do, what I am doing, and what I have done in the past. I need to tell people what my values are. I need to tell people how I have responded to various situations I have experienced. I need to be candid about my weaknesses, insecurities, failings, and brokenness and how I responded to them. However, transparency can also be bad. If I live an unrepentant life, being my own god, doubting Your character, and worshipping other things, being transparent sets a bad example. Disclosing the details of such a lifestyle is advocating for a life of rebellion against You. At the same time, revealing to godly people the details of my decadent life may prompt them to call me on the carpet to get me back to God. Father, help me to be transparent with the people around me. It is good for relationships. It is good for business. It is good for my spiritual growth. Amen.
