Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor

Dear Father, I know some religious people. They call themselves Christians. They say they love You but they are the meanest, nastiest, and most miserable monsters I've ever known. They go to church where they serve as ushers. They say a meaningless blessing at dinner. They give a Bible as a Christmas present. They tell You to accept Christ or you'll go to hell. They claim to be a devout Christian but they claim the authority to judge Your life. They hum Amazing Grace as they shout orders, insults, or criticisms with anger and venom. They are bitter and resentful towards others. They refuse to forgive those who have hurt them. They have no friends. Father, where is the love? Where is the peace? Where is the joy? Where is the compassion? Where is the mercy? Where is the generosity? Where is the humility? Where is the grace? Where is the gentleness? Where is the kindness? Where is the patience? Father, I don't see fruits of the Holy Spirit in their life. I hear all this religious _________ come out of their mouth but their hearts are as cold as ice. There is only one true measure of someone's genuine and authentic walk with You: how much do they love others? A human cannot truly love anyone when they don't first love You. If someone loves You, they can't help but love the people You love. Father, may I not be deceived. A genuine and authentic Christian is one who loves people, especially those who need compassion and grace. Make me a genuine and authentic Christian, a lover of people. Father, may You have mercy on the monsters I know. May they come to true faith in You and become the Christian people they claim they already are. Amen.
