#679 - Feeling Pressure to Conform to the Group
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor
Dear Father, belonging to a group can be dangerous. We tend to think of ourselves, collectively, as god. We can do all things by our own skills and strength because we are all in this together. We ignore the foolishness of our assumptions, beliefs, and goals because we assume people together must be collectively wise. We are motivated by fitting in, agreeing to do things we know we shouldn't do because the group tells us to do them. We tend to rely only on the information that supports the groups pre-determine course of action. In other words, groups are dangerous. Father, names like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, David, Hezekiah, Paul, and Peter remind us that You call individuals and not committees into Your service. Father, please call each of the individuals into Your service who are on groups and committees I belong to. Transform each of their lives. Transform my life. Bring us together, as a group, to affirm and support the work You are doing in us individually. Unite us as one mind under Your direction. Cast out dissension. Cast out group think. Help us as a group to cry out to You for wisdom and direction. Help us as a group to love You with all our heart, soul, and mind. Help us as a group to seek to show the love of God to people in need. Father, unite the individuals You have joined together by Your amazing sovereign plan. Amen.
