#739 - Seeking Change in Legislation
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor
Dear Father, there is a law that is in consideration in the legislature that needs to be changed. It is contrary to Your Word. Believers in Jesus Christ are accountable to speak truth to politicians in a loving, respectful, and private manner. Our goal is not to challenge them publicly but to build their trust privately through personal relationship. Father, we need to establish a relationship with a politician the moment they come into office. They need prayer. They are human. They have fears and insecurities. They have weaknesses. They have concerns in their personal life. They can be just as frustrated with the political system as the voters are. They need friends, friends from local churches who commit to regularly uphold their public service in prayer. Father, we need to be sending prayers to our elected representations, proving that they are not alone. Father, we can make things easier for a politician to vote in our favor. We can read and understand the legislation. We can present research and analysis to make our case. We can give the politician alternatives by anticipating the objections they will face from the other side of the aisle. We can understand the political game they must play and recommend to them politically viable alternatives. If the politician is not willing to discuss the legislation, we should be willing to explore other options, such as getting influential people in the community to support our side. We can secure signatures on a petition. However, the first approach should always be to build a long term and authentic personal relationship with a politician who needs a friend. Help me to connect with them and to build their trust. I will then have their respect and their ear when it is time to talk about a proposed legislation. Amen.
