#740 - I Live in a High Crime Neighborhood
Volume 2 - Prayers to Love Our Neighbor
Dear Father, I live in a neighborhood that has high crime. My home looks like a fortress with bars on the windows and doors. Many are afraid to come out of their homes for a walk to the corner store. Drugs are everywhere, with many drug deals taking place on my front steps. The sound of gunfire is routine. I see young men and women carrying firearms every day. The police are too afraid to come to our street after dark. With the decline in property value, my older and poorer neighbors are stuck. They cannot afford to sell their homes and flee. They must remain trapped in their homes, victims of vandalism. Father, this is what happens to society when people refuse to surrender their lives to You. Violence. Abuse. Theft. Vandalism. Addiction. Crime is committed because people want to be their own god. They doubt Your character. They worship other things. Without surrendering their lives to You, they cannot truly love others. Father, You have me living in this community for a reason. It is my mission field. My home needs to be the light in the darkness, a place of refuge from the evil for the decent people in the neighborhood. Father, I confess my rebellion to You. I ask for forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ. Help me surrender my life to You. I ask the Holy Spirit to bring about my transformation so that I have an abundance of love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, grace, mercy, generosity, self-control, perseverance, and compassion for others. May my home be a place for counseling, mentoring, Bible study, and prayer. May all who enter leave refreshed and renewed, hopeful for what You can do in their lives and in the neighborhood. Amen.
